-Mentor capital company is expanding its roster of clients beyond the technology space-
Alpine, UT, December 17, 2009) – Vanguard Golf Management, a full service golf management company in Lehi, Utah, has purchased the Coral Canyon golf course in Washington, Utah from SunCor Development Company of Arizona. Mentor capital company SageCreek Partners, best known for its work in launching and growing technology companies, helped direct the financing strategy for the purchase, which members of SageCreek also joined as an investor in association with Eric Loveland Family Investments, Spike Properties and several other investment associates.
As the business strategy advisor for a growing number of companies in multiple industries, in addition to its initial roster of technology firms, SageCreek Partners is pleased to add Vanguard Golf Management to its client portfolio. Coral Canyon is the first golf course property under management by Vanguard Golf Management and its partners that the company now also owns.
“We are extremely pleased for the opportunity to participate in this strategic investment, both as advisors and investors, and we look forward to our ongoing relationship to support future business development for Vanguard,” said Dwain Kinghorn, a partner for SageCreek.
Vanguard has built a solid foundation in the golf industry by managing Utah golf courses that are popular with local as well as tournament players, corporate events and charity tournaments.
In 2001 Coral Canyon was ranked in the Top 10 Best Courses You Can Play in the U.S. by Golf Magazine and the course is consistently ranked in the top five courses in Utah by Golf Digest. Coral Canyon’s 7,029-yard, par-72 layout provides a unique and memorable golfing experience.

I’m not sure what is going on at Coral Canyon but the golf course has gone down hill since the ownership change. The fairway’s and greens are in poor conditiona and it appears little is being done to fix them. The bunkers have grass in them and look as though they’ve been cut by a round nose shovel. There are many places where the grass is gone and it doesn’t appear as though anything is being done to fix the problem. No seeding, no roping off, etc.
The prior owners were not performing a lot of necessary maintenance and there were various areas that were getting rough. In the two months since Vanguard has taken over you can already see that there are new drains that have been put in, repairs to cart paths, and a lot of work on the sand traps. I’d expect to see a lot more progress as the grass comes out of hibernation as the weather warms up.
